Farmville profits may push legalizing online gambling in the U.S.

Most people who have a Facebook account know about Farmville. Whether they play it or just see updates about what friends have "purchased" on their news feed, the game seems to be everywhere. Despite what some may think, Farmville is quite successful, so successful in fact that some think it has helped break down a stigma against online gambling, Gather.com reports.

Farmville has made almost $100 billion for game developer Zynga, and might have Lawmakers changing their tune on whether or not to allow online slot games and table games into the U.S., according to the website.

Farmville seems to be a perfect example of how popular online games and gambling has become. The news outlet reports that at first, the game seems to be free and fun as players must barter and trade in order to buy new products for their virtual farms. However, in order to play more or get into different levels, players much pay up and apparently they pay a lot.

Many believe this enticing moneymaker will make states in the U.S. ready to jump on the legalize online gambling bandwagon in an effort to raise revenues within their boundaries.

Do you think the U.S. will ultimately legalize online gambling? Will it happen in 2012?
